SANDy the SL Ug I played a show with burnt back in Victoria BC around 2006 and since then i’ve continued to listen to the 2 albums (Tortillas & Esperanza) of theirs i got back then. Finally found that they’re still making music and gave this album a shot. It’s beautiful! This is a such a special band and i’m glad to see them still making honest & mellow jams so many years later. Like everyone else, Burnt started the year 2020 with plans that changed. We had been developing song ideas since our last release (Majestic Walrus, 2017) with the idea of heading into the woods of Mendocino County to record a new studio project with our extended band-family of music-makers...

…but alas, 2020 had different plans for us all.

What happened then is really beautiful though, because rather than shelve all these songs we just kept developing them. Pandemic pandemonium causes different reactions in us all, but one thing it did to the Burnt family is inspire us to connect and keep creating. The process was difficult at times — working on songs remotely or in small groups, sending stems and mixes back and forth for months is not our preferred mode of collaboration... yet we managed to make it work. This album is proof positive of our persistence.

Everyone has no doubt experienced some realizations this year, and a big one for us is that when the world sends this band down into a twisted and unexpected hole, our reaction is to bend and stretch in whichever way allows the music to keep on growing... like branches Reaching for the Sun.
